Brooks, President of North Carolina State College of Haleigli, has been secured to deliver the commencement address at Louis- burg College, Wednesday, May 21, ac cording to announcement made to day from the office of President C. C. Alexander. Before becoming the Head of State College Dr. Brooks, v/ho is an outstanding educator in the South, had held the professor ship of Education at Duke University and served for a number of years as State Superintendent of Education. The Commencement program at Louisburs: College includes the fol- hiwing features: Alumnae Banquet, Saturday eve ning, May 17. Commencement sermon, by Dr. W. W. Pcele, 11:00 A. M., Sunday, May 18. She spoke in a most in teresting fashion to the Y. W. C. A. of Iier misrionary life in India. She de livered an address at the Wednesday Evening prayer-meeting and had complete charge of religious services r.t the Baptist church last Sunday evening. Her departure from our college circle was deeply regretted. A WASHINGTON PAKTY The members of the Theta Tau Epsilon Sorority were delightfully en tertained Saturday evening, Februai'y 2?. The hostess of the evening were Misses Estelle Calhoun, Lillian New ton and Marie Wellons. The sponsor, Miss Zeigler and the honorary mem bers, Mrs. A. W. Mohn, and Misses Klein and Fontanna were present. Progressive Rook was played. Miss ITazei Wooley winning the highest score was presented with a dainty l)ox of candy. Refreshments were served, carrying out the color scheme if Ihe evening. SIG3IA IOTA CHI STUNT NIGHT February 1st, Misses Eva James Eiliott, Dorothy Stallings, Eulalia Darden, and Betty Mohn were hos tesses to the Sigma Iota Chi Sorori ty at a Cup Party in Miss I'erry’s Studio. The sorority was entertain ed by stunts performed by two groups vithin the sorority. The first group was Betty Mohn, Cora Scott, Marga ret Poyner, Eva James Elliott, and Bernadette Woodlief. Their stujits consisted of impersonations, songs, find an orchestra. Eva James Elliot impersonated Miss Zeigler by skat ing, very thoughtfully. Betty Mohn I'osed as Mrs. Mohn directing the Glee Club. Cora Scott hopped in as Gwendolyn Baugham, and Bernadette Woodlieff played a jazz piece as ciassically as Mary Cranmer ever could have played it. The Sympathy Orchestra was the next feature—this orchestra proved to be quite a rival to Paul Whitman’s. Then the five girls did a “Gym Dance” which was following by clogging by “Baby Poy ner” and one act in true vaudeville Elyle-namely Bernadette Woodlieff sang “That’s You Baby.” The second group of girls was Dorothv Stallings, Mary Cranmer, Cora Weston, Marion Watson, and Marion Bishop. They enacted the “The Wedding of the Painted Doll”, Mary Cranmer being tlie blushing doll, Cora Weston the ‘ Preacherman”, Marion Watson the groom and Dorothy Stallings and Marlon Bishop the bridesmaids. Mari on Watson, Mary Cranmer and Doro thy Stallings then portrayed “The Gay Cabellero”. Mary Cranmer waM the “Senorita”, Dorothy Stallings was the husband, and Marion Watson starred as the Gay Cabellero. The last act was “Half and Half” by Cora Weston and Dorothy Stallings; this v,-as another “Gym Dance.” The girls then went to the Chapter Room where delicious refreshments c.f hot chocolate and nut and cheese sandwiches were served. Guests of the evening were Mrs. A. W. Mohn, sponsor. Miss Isabelle 7.cigler, Miss Myra Yancey, honorary members, and Mary Waring. TEACHER’S “AT HOME” The teachers of Louisburg College were “at home” to the ladies of Louisburg on Tuesday February 4th from three-thirty to five o’clock. The hostesses were Mrs. Mohn and Misses Klein, Ziegler and Bizzell. A delicious salad cou,rse was served. ULTIMATUM ! The last payment of annual fees is due by March 15. “The Oak” v/ill be ready tor distribution near the first of May but no copies will be given out until all bills are paid. Mgr., “The Oak.” . rilES. ALEXANDER HONORED Announcement has just been re- cieved that President C. C. Alexand er of Louisburg College has been elected as an alumnus member of North Carolina Beta chapter of Phi Beta Kappa scholarship Fraternity at Du,ke University. Election to Phi Beta Kappa is considered one of the highest honors in the academic field. The election of Mr. Alexander was in line with the policy of Beta Chapter to select from time to time certain alumni who have achieved disting uished service. In addition to Pht Beta Kappa President Alexander holds membership in Sigma Upsilon National literary fraternity; Tau Kappa Alpha, national debating fra ternity; and Sigma Chi, social fra ternity. GUESTS OF COLLEGE EN- TERTAINEI) by MRS. MOIIN Mrs. A. W. Mohn entertained on St. Valentine’s Evening In honor of Mrs. D. B. Lawson, Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Horton, guests at the College. Elaborate refreshments of Valentine design consisting of a fruit cock-tail, delicious chicken salad course, fol lowed by a nesselrode creme au coeur were served. Other gulests of the evening were Miss Crenshaw, Miss Lawson ad Miss Ziegler. The following girls were initiated into full membership of Sigma Iota Chi: Misses Marion Bishop, Annie Lee Cutchin, Cora Scott, Aliene Swin- Bon, Miriam Whedbee and Bernadette Woodlieff.
